Fathom is a self-hosted agent trace store: one Go binary that ingests OTLP traces and logs and renders agent runs as readable span trees. Documents the design (OTLP-only ingest, columnar day-shards with local dictionaries, blob sidecars, time-partition-as-only-index, narrow query grammar, go:embed UI) and the alternatives that were rejected and why: Langfuse, Phoenix, general APM, a SQLite metadata layer, git-refs storage, multi-node, and a native ingest format.
